Make a Squiggly Sea Creature

Make a sea creature pencil topper that looks like the squid kabob Gilroy found in his lunchbox!

What You Will Need:

  • 2 Chenille Stems (I used purple)
  • 1 Pencil
  • 2 Google Eyes
  • Nail Clipper or Craft Scissors
  • Tacky Craft Glue

Directions:

First, make the body by tightly wrapping one chenille stem about 6-8 times around the eraser end of the pencil. Clip the excess stem away from the body using the nail clipper.  (You may need an adult to help with this.)  Remove the body from the pencil and set it aside.

Loosely wrap the second chenille stem around the pencil.  Remove the chenille from the pencil.

Clip the chenille you just removed from the pencil into 4 pieces. (You may need an adult’s help.)

You should now have 1 body and 4 legs.

Take one of the legs and make a small hook into one end.  You will use this to hook the legs onto the body.  Make hooks in the other 3 leg pieces.

Hook one of the legs onto the lower part of the body.  Squeeze the hook so that it grips the body tightly.

Hook each of the remaining legs onto the body, taking care to space each leg around the bottom of the body.

Put your sea creature onto the eraser end of the pencil.  Arrange his legs if necessary.

Dot the back of each google eye with glue.  Attach eyes to creature’s body

You’re done!
